Egypt, Red Sea (El Gouna and around)
The Red Sea is the workhorse of summer kitesurfing. The prime wind season runs roughly May to October, and June to September is the most reliable peak: steady wind, warm water, flat-water areas, and a competitive school scene. The Greek islands
Greece is the close-to-home European summer option, with a season running roughly May to October. The islands get reliable summer wind and have established schools, which makes them a great pick for pairing a kite trip with a proper holiday. Peak summer is the safest bet for consistent wind.
Northern summer also: the Dominican Republic
Cabarete on the DR’s north coast has its strongest thermal wind season from June to August, when the afternoon thermals kick in reliably on top of the trades. That makes it a summer destination too, with the bonus of warm Caribbean water. Keep reading for its second, winter season.
Northern winter (Nov - March): chase the Caribbean
The Grenadines (Union Island)
When Europe and North America go flat, the Grenadines deliver. Union Island sits inside a strong trade-wind window running roughly November to July, one of the longest reliable seasons on this list. It’s a travel mission, but the reward is warm water and dependable wind right through the northern off-season.
Dominican Republic (winter window)
Cabarete also runs a calmer trade-wind and tourist window from December to March. The wind is lighter than the summer thermal season, so plan to ride larger kites, commonly in the 10 to 16 square metre range, to make the most of it. It’s a solid winter-sun option that doubles as a beginner-friendly spot.

You’ll see northeast Brazil, Tarifa in Spain, Cape Town in South Africa, and Mauritius on plenty of seasonal lists, and they’re well-known wind destinations. We haven’t verified their exact season windows to our own standard here, so rather than quote you specific months that might send you in the wrong week, we’d suggest confirming the current season directly with a reputable local school or operator before booking. Cape Town, for instance, is generally a Southern Hemisphere summer destination, but treat any specific month claim as something to double-check.
